Benoit Godbout
VP of Creative, Producer, Director
Holder of a bachelor’s degree in graphic design from UQAM and recipient of the Alliance Média Jeunesse emerging talent award (2004), Benoit Godbout began his animation career in the early 2000s as a storyboard artist, character designer, and art director on productions by Cinar, Ciné-Groupe, Spectra Animation, and Motion International. After a rapid rise through production ranks, he became a director for various Quebec animation producers and studios, co-creating and co-directing his own animated series Blaise le blasé at Spectra Animation in 2008, which aired on Télétoon and France Télévision.
Throughout his career, he directed the television series Les Mini-tuques, Les Grandes gueules s’animent (TELETOON), Pérusse Cité (Radio-Canada), NCK en coulisses, and Joy Eternal (web platforms). He also served as art director on Vie de Quartier (Radio-Canada) and Toupie et Binou (Treehouse/Télé-Québec). In 2018, he directed his first feature film, La Course de tuques, at Carpe Diem. This new medium captivated him, leading to the development and direction of two more feature films: Les Bottanïx (coproduction with Germany) and Débridés (with the United Kingdom), still at Carpe Diem — theatrical releases planned for 2026 and 2027.
Outside of animation, Benoit co-directed the documentary Au Québec avec Tintin for Télé-Québec alongside Jean-Philippe Duval in 2014 and created the comic book series Académie des chasseurs de primes (3 volumes) published by Les 400 Coups.
As a concept developer and screenwriter, Benoit has developed numerous projects for film and television. In 2024, he partnered with Andicha Média to develop his animated feature concept Les Trois Sœurs, a fable featuring Quebec and Wendat legends, co-written with Marie-France Landry. In his career, he won two Gémeaux Awards as director for best animated series for Pérusse Cité and Blaise le blasé (TELETOON and FR2), along with numerous nominations, including for the film La Course des Tuques at the Gala Québec Cinéma.
