Sylvain Lavoie

Bachelor of Fine Arts, Animation Program at Concordia University, Sylvain Lavoie began his career at Les Productions Pascal Blais (now Tonic DNA) and at the National Film Board of Canada. After working as a designer and storyboard artist (notably on Kaput and Zösky), he made his directorial debut with the series Walter. He then co-directed Blaise le blasé, which earned him the Gémeaux Award for Best Animated Series (2009) and the Youth Media Alliance Emerging Talent Award (2008). He also directed Vie de quartier, the first prime-time animated series for Radio-Canada.
He later collaborated with Oasis Animation on popular series such as Martha Speaks and Les Grandes Gueules s’animent, and directed three seasons of F is for Family (Netflix, created by Bill Burr and Michael Price). Recruited by 9Story in Toronto, he directed Breaking Bear (Tubi), an original adult animated production co-produced by Tom DeLonge (Blink-182) and starring Brendan Fraser, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Annie Murphy, and Josh Gad. The series is set to premiere in 2026.
To date, Sylvain Lavoie has directed more than 44 hours of television animation. He has also worked as an editorial caricaturist for Le Journal de Montréal and La Presse. He is the writer and illustrator of the children’s book series Oeuf & Jambon and the comic books Crobot Magnon (Les Malins).
